Tanah Rata, the perfect ‘base camp’ if you want to visit the Cameron Highlands. The small town really has everything you need for your stay and for exploring the highlands. You’ll find many restaurants, hostels, hotels, tour offices and souvenir shops on the main street. There’s also a large bus station to take the bus to your next destination in Malaysia, like Taman Negara National Park, Langkawi Island, Penang Island, Kuala Lumpur. There’s also an option to get to Singapore or Thailand.

In the middle of the main street in Tanah Rata, right across the street from the bus station, you’ll find the quiet hostel R&R Budget Inn. Run by two warm, loving and helpful Philippine friends, Diosa and Vilma, this is the perfect place to stay in Tanah Rata. It’s colourful interior makes all your days just a little bit more sunny, which you sometimes need in this cool place where the sun doesn’t always shine. The hostel is very clean, the beds are comfortable and the bathrooms even have hot water showers. What else do you need after a long day of hiking and exploring the highlands?
The Cameron Highlands are known for their beautiful tea plantations, strawberry farms and the Mossy Forest, which you can all easily explore by a tour. These tours are all offered by your hostels host Vilma. She arranges pick-up from your hostel and promises a good price, great gratitude and an everlasting smile. You can read more about these beautiful places and see some pictures here.
You can also do some beautiful jungle trekking from the village of Tanah Rata. There are at least 10 trails around the village. More info on how to find them and some pictures you can find here.

Transfers to other places in Malaysia by comfortable, air-conditioned bus you can book with Vilma for the best price. She’s around in the hostel every morning and every evening, but if you can’t find her, go have a look at the tour offices at the bus station. Her office is the very last one. If you still can’t find her, you can always contact her by phone, or ask Diosa at the hostel to give her a call. She’ll be happy to help you.

The hostel has a selection of rooms for you to choose from, starting from 8 euros per person on booking.com. If you use this link you even get a 15 euro discount on you booking! The hostel has two dormitories, one 4 bed dorm and one 8 bed dorm. You can also choose to stay in a private room, which is actually cheaper if you stay with 2 persons, than 2 beds in the dorm. You can choose a private room with two single beds or a room with double bed, both with sared bathroom. There’s also a double bed room with ensuite bathroom.

The hostel has three bathrooms, all with toilet and hot water shower. There’s two sinks outside the bathrooms, so you can still brush your teeth even when all the bathrooms are occupied. You get free toilet paper and towels with your stay.

Note: Don’t trust Google Maps with this accommodation, because the given location unfortunately is wrong. When you arrive at Tanah Rata by bus, you just cross the street and the hostel is right there. You can’t miss it, because it has a bright green outer wall. The green staircase next to the ‘Nasi Kandar Mamu Ismail’ restaurant leads you right in.

Dear Diosa and Vilma, if you read this, thank you both so much again for our nice stay and arranging our transfer to Taman Negara National Park. We had a really great time and we hope to come back one day to see you again. All the best with your beautiful hostel and the tour office!
